"My friend.” says the eagle to the salmon from
the sea
a proud eagle; swoops down in perfect form
snaps a slimy salmon from the sea
carries what came from water up to tallest tree
into nest, lets aqua rest before the long sought after feast
fish squirms; unfamiliar with this pattern
missing motion of the monsoon moving miles every minute
drowning in oxygen, breathing first then last of breath
into death; rebirth, kind eyes of bird meet fear of
a fish
and then there is a moment.
eagle opens wide;
stretching wings 5 meters side to side.
lurches forward; fish flaps in fear
eagle snags the flipper, lifts the salmon up in
air,
loops about around and up, back down, and diving deep
to fish’s friendly sea
eagle proudly lets the little fishy proudly be.
shows his power by intention. Though wing span wide,
on the inside,
the bird is bigger than a bear
flying upwards into air
sailing through skies
wisest of eyes
salmon; sinks into sea
diving into darkness discretely distressed
flapping fins to freedom, the little fishy thinks
“sure glad to see the sunset, see the sea from in the sky”
and as the salmon swims away happy to be free
“part of longing leaves with letting go of sorrowed sea”
"My friend.” says the salmon to the eagle in the tree,
“Thank you.”
