I
had a strange and "yucky" dream last night and I'm
really curious as to know what it may possibly mean. I
was in someone's home (don’t know who) and I happened to
walk into the bathroom. I noticed immediately the mess.
There were used sanitary napkins piled up against the
tile walls of the bathtub and the trashcan was overflowing
with them. They were all used. I remember feeling
"yucky" - dirty and disgusted with the sight around
me. When I walked out into the living room and sat on
one of the stools by the counter top (eating area that divides
the kitchen from the dining area ) there were others there but
I didn’t know who they were. I noticed a bowl shaped
like a shallow drum that was also filled with used napkins.
A person in front of me, standing in the kitchen (a
girl) hands something to me and another person sitting next to
me (a guy) that looks like a square, spongy white piece of
bread (it was the size of half a saltine cracker except much
thicker). I took it between my thumb and index finger
and started peeling off thin layers and putting them in my
mouth; he did the same. It was a very slow and conscious
act by both of us. As I did so, I noticed that the
texture of this thing in my hand which I put into my mouth in
slices, peeled away like cotton (it felt like cotton but in my
dream it was edible food). I just didn’t know what
type of food it was. As I continued this deliberate
process, I watched the fellow in front of me mirroring me and
then I noticed the taste and texture in my mouth which first
tasted and felt like cotton gave off a different taste and
smell. I looked down into his hand and then mine and
noticed that the remaining pieces were of a darker reddish
brown color and it felt saturated with something. The
taste was a bit bitter and the odor was that of a used napkin.
I then have a flashback in my dream. As I stare at her
(the girl in the kitchen who handed me this thing to eat) and
the bowl filled with dirty rolled kotex, I have a vision of
the past: Before I came to sit on the stool, I see what she
did and where she took this piece of edible cotton-like food
from. As I stare into the bowl, I see that she had left
the “food” sitting inside the bowl wedged between the side
of the bowl and the sanitary napkins.
The blood from the napkins had soaked into it. I come
back to the present as I look away from the bowl into her
face. There is no expression. I feel sick to my
stomach. The guy also is expressionless. Then
I wake up in real life and I feel utterly sick to my stomach.
What does this mean? I am greatly disturbed by it.
Please help. |

Dear
Dreamer: There
are some very powerful images in this dream!
Two rooms play a big part in your dream:
the bathroom and the kitchen.
The kitchen is where you receive nourishment and the
bathroom is for elimination of the old.
These two themes are woven throughout your dream.
The repeated appearances of signs of menstruation
signify maturing and becoming a woman, releasing the old and
embracing new beginnings.
Menstruation is also a time of introspection and
stillness—a time to connect with your inner self, your inner
cycles, and your connection with earth and the moon.
Blood represents the life-force, powerful emotions and
passions, renewal of life.
Also because it is “used” blood, it can represent a
draining of life energy.
Bread and food are also powerful metaphors for life.
Because they are mentioned in this same dream they
bring up issues of spiritual, mental, physical and emotional
nourishment. Your
nausea (feeling sick to your stomach) also symbolizes getting
rid of that which is no longer wanted and needed. It
seems as though this dream may be trying to tell you to pay
more careful attention to what you truly need in your life,
and also what is old and ready to be discarded (in the
trashcan). Trust your “gut” feelings. You are readying yourself for
something new. The
fact that you can’t tell exactly what this strange food is,
and then learn it is something distasteful and meant for the
garbage, means a distinction is needed between what is feeding
you and what is draining your energy. Also, that the food was tainted by accident, that it soaked
up the fluid passively, is also telling.
What is it that you are absorbing unconsciously that
you know is not true food for your soul? There
are many layers of meaning to this dream, like the many layers
of the food. Perhaps
something that used to feed you is no longer providing the
nourishment you need? As
you peel back the layers in your mind, are you ready to let go
of some of your old ways of being. We
cannot ignore the powerful image of you and the man sharing
the very thin layers of food saturated with blood, and how it
is symbolic of the communion of Christ.
Christ, as a dream symbol, represents the God force
within you, forgiveness, unconditional love, and resurrection
or beginning anew. Communion
is a deep sharing and communication.
The man is “mirroring” you, reflecting yourself
back to you. You are communicating with yourself, preparing
for your new life. Cotton
is used as a description of the food.
If you were to put real cotton into your mouth it would
absorb all the moisture (your life force) and keep you from
being able to talk (communication with yourself and others).
At the end of the dream both the man and woman are both
expressionless--without expression. Do you need more self-expression in your life? We
suggest taking some time to write and reflect on all of this
information and incorporate all the other things that are
going on in your life right now.
What do you really want out of life?
What is no longer serving you?
What can you throw away?
What truly nourishes and sustains you?
Are your answers different than they would have been a
few months ago? Where
have you made life changes recently? Thank
you for your sharing this amazing dream with us.
Keep dreaming!

While we were working on this dream we referred often to these two different wonderful books: The
Secret Language of Signs by Denise Linn The Secret Language of Signs and The Hidden Power of Dreams both by Denise Linn have made a big difference to me. When I wake up from a particularly vivid dream or if a strange object or animal happens to cross my path, I run and get these books to get new insights into the significance. Denise, in her very gentle and spiritual style, stresses the importance of interpreting your own dreams and signs. She gives you several ideas to think about and mull over. I find myself using the books together because their great alphabetical listings of dream symbols/signs compliment one another nicely. I believe EVERYTHING is connected, so I am always happy to find sources of information that will help me understand my crazy, synchronistic world a little bit better. |
