Balance Morsels

Creating Balance
or The Art of Living in a Restless World

by Kristin Morrison

Rest when you are tired. Go on *more* than 2 vacations a year.
Say NO a lot!
Hire a housecleaner - start with once a month. Read more books.
Listen, really listen to others.
Include dates with yourself in your appointment book. Get a massage and don't plan to do anything afterward but bask in the glow of it.
Get into a regular schedule of journal writing.
Plan something simple and fun to look forward to each and every day. Reach out for help when you need it.
Stop saying "I'm too busy."  What can you do to change that?
Ask your friends and family what they do to relax and recharge. Look at someone in your life who you feel *lives* a balanced life - emulate them.
STOP doing the 'one more thing' thing: "Oh, I'll just do the dishes and then I can relax."  Stop!
Cook simple and healthy meals. Don't buy anything for a whole week - you can do it!
Give your TV a hiatus.
Ask for help (delegate) Ask yourself:  What would my world look like if I was the most important person in my life?  How would I do things differently?

What I Know About Balance
by Rebecca Carlisle

Well, I know what the word means.  Sort of.  Maybe I should look it up in the dictionary.  The word "balance" touches on practically everything.  It involves opposing forces, gracefulness, weighing, thinking,  pondering, measuring, judging, deciding, stability, an aesthetically pleasing integration of elements, mental and emotional stability, harmony.   What balance means to me is a feeling of peace.  I don't have this experience often.  And it doesn't mean the peace of sleep.  It means feeling peaceful while in the middle of doing everything in my life.  A day that includes stretching my mind as well as muscles, laughing and crying, being creative and supportive, learning something, discovering something.

Why do I expect to just write this all the way through?  Why do I expect so much of myself?  I think the real test is the balance between the clutch and the accelerator!

Balance and the Self-Employed

by Kristin Morrison

Don't work yourself harder than your employees. Let the "pain in the butt" clients go (they are not worth your time and energy in the long run).
Get out of scarcity mode: realize there will always be plenty of
clients and business.
Ask yourself:  What is the biggest time waster in my business?  Think how you can do that Time Waster differently. Set goals each month for your business (90% of my goals are achieved not from working harder but simply by reading and focusing on my goals each day)
Delegate, delegate, delegate
Raise your prices or rates slightly each year (give yourself and your
employees a raise!)
Decide what you would do with your life if you had lots of free time.  If you don't think about it now you may not know what to do with your time when you get it.
Hire people you don't have to worry about
Get clear on what skills/qualities you want in employees before hiring. Book time for yourself in your appointment book.
