Letters To My Younger Self
|
|
Dear younger
me,
Please remember
that everything always works out.
Even when
everything looks really messed up, and things are
absolutey NOT how you want them, they always have a way
of making sense later... this is one of life's great
mysteries.
Let go! have
more fun.
Stop trying so
hard to do it right.
You are always
less fat and more loved thank you think you are.

P.S. wear your
bicycle helmet.

If I
could talk to my self of twenty years ago, I'd tell her:
she should trust that her psychic gifts are real,
that she's not a phony...I'd caution her not to abandon
them just when people are giving her acknowledgment and
praise! For it's taken till now to really re-own this
wonderful, inspiring gift that I discarded, trying to be
"normal." Thank goodness I've finally embraced
my psychic self again! She was far too long in the dust
pile...

Pssst.
Hey, you. Red. Yeah, you.
You'll
think it's the end of the world, each time it happens.
There
will be people who tell you to buck up, look on the
bright side.
They'll
tell you he was a jerk, that you're better off
without him.
There
will be fishing experts, they will tell you the sea is
full of fish, or as Kevin Kline would say "si
plein des poissons."
They'll
be right, too, but don't listen. Not to one
single peep. Here's why.
That
pain you're feeling, it hurts. It sucks, truth
be told. But you can feel it. It's
tangible. It's nails on the chalkboard of your
heart and soul.
Of
course you hate feeling it. And I'd be lying if
I said you'll ever get used to feeling it.
But
there's a solace in it, and I'm not talking about
getting in touch with your inner masochist.
The
solace comes into play when you realize, and you will,
that because you can feel the pain, you must be able
to feel the elation as well. The joy. The
absolute happiness that will wash over you.
Along
with all those fish, when the time comes...

Younger
Self,
Please, don't be so nice all the time! Your going to get
walked all over - get that "edge" that
you so admire in others, and soar with it! Be aggressive,
go after what you want. If you don't, you will too
often wish you had.
I Love You,
Your older self

Dear Peter,
Don't do
anything different.
Everything is
going to be okay.
But if you do
have a chance, take a few more pictures of yourself from
time to time. I'd like to have more of an idea of what
everything used to look like. Oh, and get a burrito. I
don't know where you're going to find one in
Williamsport, but get one. They're awesome.
Your pal,
me
