Different Things
Stefanie Reneé

They both wanted different things

She needed to feel sexy and wanted and loved
Loved like no other day
Scooped up love, fun, laughter love
Acknowledged love

He needed the “you’re ok” “you do enough” love

Neither could really fulfill the other
They tried and failed
The expectations were too high
They were wrapped up so tight within themselves

She needed to be taken
From the moment she walked in the door
Taken
The coat off, the shoes off, the jeans, the shirt, the bra, the underwear
Everything
Slowly
Eyes to eyes
Lips to neck
All very slowly
Silent
Taken
Taken where she was
Quietly, gently
Kissed on the neck, the back, the breasts, the belly, everywhere
That spot
The inner thigh
Taken
Taken in
Engulfed
Gently, lovingly
Taken all
Right there, where they were
No talking, nothing
Just the sound of their breath
Taken all the way
Being told without words how much he loved her, wanted her
How she was enough, more than enough

He needed something different
He need acknowledgement
Kind words
Kind touches
Rubs on the right spots
He needed her to be happy and in a good mood
To smile and not ask questions
Not want anything
He needed her to stop with the looks and the depression and the worry
He wanted her to look at him with happiness and content
That’s what he wanted, needed
He wanted help and encouragement and non-judgmental love,
Respect, not the smart ass comments that come way too easily

They knew they wanted different things and knew neither was willing to let go
To give and give in to the other
There were small trials, small steps
But nothing
Nothing to show to the other

Under it all, underneath the skin and bones and deep within their souls
They knew what they needed wouldn’t be fulfilled
They knew
They went ahead and did what they do
They did what they did
Not talking
Not telling
Not asking
They knew what other needed, wanted but knew it wouldn’t be given
