Your
comments about Be Real Magazine:
I hate to be negative here, especially since Julie Russell is a friend of mine, but I think it's really poor that I put the time in to send a submission in for the synchronicity issue (over a month ago, I think) and I have heard absolutely nada feedback about it. No "no thanks" or "please edit and return to us" or even, "we've got it and we'll let you know". It sucks to put work into something, esp. Something I'm passionate about, and then for it to be completely ignored and/or lost in the shuffle.
I've said my peace, and I'd appreciate it if someone got back to me about this. Thanks a lot. I mean, I dig the magazine and always enjoy it and have had positive experiences before this, but this understandably put a sour taste in my mouth.
Yes, we received your story, "Did God Lend Me This Waitressing Gig?" We have an automated response specifically so writers understand it takes time (sometimes 6 months!) for us to respond to submissions. We're wrapping up the Play issue currently, and after that issue is published we will begin reviewing submissions for Synchronicity.
We appreciate your patience and understand that every moment feels like an eternity when you're waiting for a response. We had a bit of trouble finding your submission because your name and email weren't in the body of your story and they were separated from the email when we received it. Please put these at the top of your story, along with the title, if you want
to help us out a bit!
I'm very interested in your #12 issue on synchronicity, both as a reader/observer of synchronicity and as a potential contributor to Be Real. Is there a way to buy/find #12? I live just south of Vancouver/north of Seattle in
Washington. My first time here. I will come back and check it out again.
We're
interested in our Synchronicity issue too - but as you may
know now, we've just finished it! Currently our beloved
magazine is only available on the Internet and not in
print. Maybe someday. In the meantime, make sure
you join our yahoo groups
list to be notified of all new issues as they're released.
I liked Rebecca Carlisle's article. Dreamy and poetic. However, there may be a physiological reason for the sneezing fits. One solution that did not occur to her is that possibly her gallbladder is acting up. Sneezing fits are pretty typical of gallbladder discomfort. If she has difficulty digesting fatty foods, or has pain between the shoulder blades, that would be significant. She should maybe see her physician.
Are you guys still publishing? I looked at the future issues page, and it listed future issues with submission due dates in May and August 2003.
Thanks,
Molly
Hi Molly - Here's the most recent "future issues" page - is this the one you are
referencing? http://www.berealmag.com/issue12/futureissues.htm
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure what happened, but I think perhaps I was looking at an archived version of the page that was out of date. In any case, sorry for my ditsy question! You may be hearing from me soon with a submission for consideration.
Have a great weekend. - Molly
I have just "tripped" across your beautiful little e-mag. I have enjoyed it quite a bit, but it seems that you have faded away as there are no new entries. If this is so, where did you go? If you're still around I'd love to play too!
The next issue of Be Real will be out late
March. For information on future issues, look here:

Thanks for reading!
I'm in love with it! I'm a long-time reader and (hopeful) first-time contributor (soon, soon).
I had to write and tell you a little something -- The Opposite of Peas is beyond fabulous! Please tell Mr. Prato his words painted a scrumptious tickle for me...
Response
From Peter Prato:
This certainly cheered me up, which I certainly
appreciate. I'm climbing back onto the proverbial ball
here in the new year, and hopefully will have some new
material to send your way. I'm amidst the hunt for a new
(and full time) job, which slows everything else down.
If only food and shelter were free, maybe I could write to my
heart's desire.
Happy New Year to you. I hope it's kicked off with
something comfortable, like a cup of coffee and one of those
long, lazy mornings when school's been cancelled, and you feel
like you can get anything finished.
Thanks again, very much.
This
is the first time I bumped into Be Real and I read Adrienne's Moody
Girl of Issue 9.
It struck me real hard and I could relate to it instantly.
Next thing I'm going to do is subscribe to Be Real. Thanks
Adrienne for the insight! It will really help me, I know.
Response
from Adrienne:
I love writing Moody Girl columns because it gives me the
space to write what I'm really feeling without candy coating
it in any way. Of course, this is quite scary
sometimes! Your letter gave me the reassurance that
being honest about what's going on inside my head is a good
thing to do. Thanks for that!
I
am writing in repose to Rebecca Carlisle's article
"Stirring Up the Dust". I always sneeze at
least three times after a large meal. I was trying to
find out why on the internet when I found her article. I
pressed on and found a very
interesting article on the Dicovery Channel's website.
Apparently sneezing fits can be brought on by various
activities (eating being one of the rarer ones). The
most common is bright light. I haven't found any medical
term for the condition, and very little information.
Thought I would pass this tidbit along.
I
think the magazine is brilliant full of great information. And
I'm another person who has had an accident with Clairol herbal
essence spicy ginger hair dye. At present my hair is bright
orange on the top. Help! Never use the stuff! -
Kelly Wow!
I don't think Kate Swoboda had any idea how much attention her
article, Hair Dye Hell,
would attract. Hope your hair has recovered Kelly! What
